Ionic liquids for tribology: fundamental & applications (The 3rd category)

Ionic liquids are unique compounds that possess thermal stability, non-flammability, non-volatility and high thermal capacity. These properties are desirable for advanced lubricants. In fact, the tribological properties of various ionic liquids have been acquired in laboratory and have been reported. Plenty types of cations and several types of anions are known to be precursors of ionic liquids. Possibility of ionic liquids, prepared by combining anion and cation, is estimated more than one million. Therefore systematic research is required to reveal the tribology of ionic liquids.
Our research consortium aims to share the technical information regarding the tribology of ionic liquids obtained from the public domain. We welcome any tribologists who are interested in ionic liquids; of course both academic researchers and industrial engineers. For details, do not hesitate to ask us by e-mail; Minami at ichiro iwate-u.ac.jp or Sasaki at s.sasaki rs.kagu.tus.ac.jp.
