The electronic online journal "Tribology Online", published by the Japanese Society of Tribologists,
JAST, aims to facilitate exchange of information through rapid publication of high quality papers for
the worldwide development of tribology.
The scope includes all aspects of tribology and other science and engineering areas which relate to
the subjects of tribology. The journal is completely electronic, and is open to the world for
free access through Internet. |

Tribology Online publishes Article, Short Communication and Review. Article is intended to be an original report of researches and technological developments in tribology and relevant fields. Short Communication is intended to be a preliminary report of new concepts, findings, technological developments and opinions whose rapid publication will be important for a large number of readers in relevant fields. Review is intended to be review of researches and technological developments in tribology and relevant fields. |

Submission of manuscripts implies that it has not been published previously,
and is not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. Those manuscripts of Papers (Original Contributions) and Short Papers that are written in Japanese and have been published in the Journal of Japanese Society of Tribologists (Toraiborojisuto) may be translated to English and published in Tribology Online; the originality is in the original Japanese papers. |

It is essential that all who participate in producing the journal conduct themselves as authors,
reviewers, editors, and publishers in accord with the highest level of professional ethics and
standards. By submitting a manuscript to this journal, each author implicitly confirms that
it meets the highest ethical standards. Also, authors should be responsible for statements or
opinions advanced in papers to be published in this journal. |
| Recommended length for Short Communication Papers is four printed pages.
There is no page limit for Article and Review. |

It is a condition for publication that all manuscripts must be written in English and
be prepared in electronic form with the specified layout and style of the journal. In order to speed up time for publication, and at the same time to maintain high quality of this online journal, authors are requested to use a MSWord template to prepare manuscript, and to submit manuscript, both new and revised, in Adobe PDF format. The final version of manuscript that has been accepted for publication should be submitted in MSWord document file format. The manuscripts submitted are peer reviewed by at least two reviewers before they are:
Decisions regarding acceptance of manuscripts are made by the Editor based on reviewers' recommendation. Mandatory and/or optional revisions, and minor amendments, if any, are listed and sent to the authors, who are responsible for making required changes or improvements, or may state objections. Evaluation of manuscripts of Article is based upon novelty, technical quality, significance of research, clarity and conciseness in presentation, and definitiveness, and whether proper English is used are also the points to be reviewed. Evaluation of manuscripts of Short Communication is based upon originality and technical quality. Significance of research, clarity in presentation, and whether proper English is used are also the points to be reviewed. Evaluation of manuscripts of Review is based upon technical quality, significance in relevant fields, and clarity and conciseness in presentation, and whether proper English is used are also the points to be reviewed. The authors when required revisions should submit the revised manuscript within two months after receipt of the list of comments and suggestions of the reviewers, otherwise the initial submission date is not retained. Statements and opinions in published papers, even if changed or improved in the course of required revisions, are individual expressions of the authors and not those of the society. |

When an article that has been accepted for publication needs English native correction, the Editor will ask the authors to do so before they submit the final version of the manuscript. Manuscripts below the acceptable level will not be published. |

The copyright in papers accepted for publication in Tribology Online becomes the property of the
Japanese Society of Tribologists; all authors are asked to transfer copyright to the society prior to
publication. COPYRIGHT TRANSFER FORM is here. Reproduction of any part of the papers elsewhere, in printed or any other forms, is not allowed without written permission from the society, and from the authors. JAST’s policy is to grant permission to the authors to reproduce whole or substantial parts of their articles to recognized publications upon written request after the material has first been published in Tribology Online. The authors are requested to cite reference to the original articles in the reproduced articles. Reference should be cited explicitly to all the referred materials. The authors are responsible for clearance from their organization as well as for permission to reproduce any figure, table and text previously published by others. |
